Three people were arrested for assault and attempted arson stemming from a Molotov cocktail attack in Rhode Island, according to authorities.

The Cranston Police Department released surveillance video showing someone in a car throwing a Molotov cocktail at a parked van on April 27 around 1:45 a.m. EDT.

Police said the van’s driver tried to follow the car but gave up and called police. Investigators said license plate reader cameras helped them identify the car.

Evidence of the incendiary device was collected from the scene matched materials inside the suspect vehicle,” police said in a release.

Police arrested two women -- 19-year-old Drew Rappoport, of Coventry and 20-year-old Brianna Wischnowsky, of Warwick – and a boy under 18. Police said the suspects face arson, assault, weapons, and conspiracy charges.

A Molotov cocktail is an improvised, hand-thrown weapon made in a breakable container that's filled with flammable substances. It's lit by a fuse, thrown, and explodes on impact, often causing fires.

Honestly, I can't believe kids my age are doing something like that around my grandparents on their road and everything like that. It's shocking to me," said Jonah Stewart, who mows lawns in the neighborhood his grandparents live in.

The grandfather-grandson duo was shocked it happened.

You know, you got to lock your gates at night and make sure things are secure and just in this day and age, you have to be careful," said Gene Plunkett. "Even though it's a safe neighborhood, you have to be careful."

Police said no one was hurt.

Police did not say what the relationship was between the two vehicles or if the home it happened in front of was involved.
