Bright Spot: Allendale Columbia students shop for Hillside
Wednesday’s Bright Spot shines on the special Santas who put Hillside Family of Agencies on their list each year.
More than 20 kindergartners from Allendale Columbia shopped Wednesday for the Hillside Special Santa Program.
Last month, the kids started learning about wants and needs. Then, they organized their own bake sale and used the $1,300 raised to buy gifts for families in need.
“We are shopping for little girls and boys who don’t have much,” said kindergartner Viviana. “It makes me feel happy.”
“At the start of the project, they talk about themselves a lot more,” said teacher Amy Mealey, “but they learn through the process that we are giving and not getting. It’s a good experience for all kids this age.”
