Bright Spot: Summer Leap Program at Allendale Columbia
Tuesday's Bright Spot shines on a partnership working to prevent the summer slide.
Allendale Columbia is hosting the Summer Leap Program, in which the school partners with and helps first and second graders at Rochester's School #17.
The program fights summer learning loss by providing free summer programming.
"This is the most rewarding part of my year," said instructor Lindsey Brown. "Seeing the kids make progress, make connections with teachers and have a positive academic and social, emotional experience this summer."
The students attend classes for six weeks, receive meals and work on reading, math, health, character development, art and music.
