2018 Xerox Rochester Intl. Jazz Festival: Lake Street Dive
The band, Lake Street Dive, is coming to impress fans in Rochester. They are one of the headliners of the 2018 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival and is set to perform on June 28 at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.
In 2014, Lake Street Dive was hailed by Rolling Stone as "Best New Band" following the release of their album "Bad Self Portraits".
This month, they are bringing back that powerful, soulful flavor to Rochester following the recent the release of their self-produced album "Free Yourself Up".
"Nobody knows what we are capable of better than the other members of this band,” said band member Mike "McDuck" Olson. “So we were really able to go out on every limb that we wanted to explore."
The band has avoided discussing the genre of their new album, simply saying that there is something for everyone.
"There's stuff that rocks really hard...there's a straight funk track, there's a little bit more pop leaning stuff," said Olsen.
The band hopes fans enjoy each song, but also understand the overall message behind them. "We're not a protest band", said Olsen, "but we are people with eyes and with brains and a great deal of the message of this record is that you have power. You have power to change the world that you live in and hopefully for the better".
They hope fans leave the show feeling empowered and tired from dancing.
