Rochester, N.Y. – One of the headliners of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival came to town already.

Victor Wooten is one of the most acclaimed bass players in the world.

Wooten is also a member of “Bela Fleck and The Flecktones,” who have been announced as a Jazz Fest headliner.

His “Victor Wooten Trio” played at Anthology in Rochester’s East End Thursday.

Wooten said he was excited to come back to Rochester. But he’s also excited to return to Bela Fleck and The Flecktones.

“We don’t tour as much as we used to,” said Wooten. “We’re not out, like, 300 days a year. So now, coming back to it, it’s almost like coming back home. It’s like a fun family reunion. We get back, and we don’t know what we’re going to play yet, but as soon as we start playing, it’s almost like, ‘Wow, I remember this; this is really cool.’ So it really is like coming back home, it’s so familiar. But everybody’s been out doing their own thing, so we have something new to bring to it. And that’s fun, too.”

Wooten is a five-time Grammy winner and was selected by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top 10 bassists of all time.
