Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The recent bump in the number of cases of influenza has begun to recede, but new deaths are being reported.
As of April 14, 18 adults have died from the flu in Monroe County.
During the six month span in which the Monroe County Health Department tracked flu cases in the county, there were 7,146 confirmed cases of the flu. Of those, 4,627 were flu A , 2,516 flu B, and three were both.
That marks 250 new cases in the last week.
There have been 1,269 people who needed to be hospitalized as a result of the flu.
The 18 individuals who died this season have been ages 50 or older. Under federal law, the number of people diagnosed with the flu who also received flu shots cannot be disclosed. Vaccination records fall under HIPPA.
