Flu cases appear to be leveling off in Monroe County
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - No new deaths due to influenza were reported by the Monroe County Health Department in the last week.
In the report released Monday, the number of cases of influenza are still increasing as of February 17, but at a much slower rate compared to previous weeks. Eleven people have died as a result of influenza since the Department of Health started recording flu cases this winter.
Since the previous week of reporting, there have been 715 new confirmed cases of the flu. This is compared to 697 new confirmed cases for the week prior.
The Monroe County Health Department said it has seen 4,430 confirmed cases of the flu. Of those, 3,395 are flu A and 1,034 are flu B.
Of those, 827 people have been hospitalized.
All eleven deaths have been ages 50 or older. Under federal law, the number of people diagnosed with the flu who also received flu shots cannot be disclosed. Vaccination records fall under HIPPA.
