What's Going Around - Week of May 13, 2018
(WHAM) - Here is what's going around for the week of May 13, 2018.
Dr. David Carlson from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Farmington has been treating sunburn.
Even though sunburn isn't contagious from person-to-person, you should know that you can get sunburn even on cloudy says. People are especially sensitive after a long winter of minimal sun exposure, so a good majority of Rochester will be at risk.
Sunscreen can expire, so check the label on your leftover tube or spray bottle if you are using your 2017 sunscreen.
Dr. Carolyn Stern from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Henrietta is treating strep throat, allergies and bug bites.
Warmer weather brings people outside - and there they meet bugs in their natural habitat. The best way to prevent being bitten, aside from not going outside, is to wear long sleeves, apply insect repellent with deet and avoid swampy and moist places.
If you are bitten, remove any stingers quickly and scrape the skin with a plastic card or by using tweezers. After that, wash the area with soap and water before patting it dry. Do. Not. Scratch.
Your doctor or healthcare provider can give you the best advice.
