Louise Slaughter hospitalized after fall in Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C. (WHAM) - Rep. Louise Slaughter is recovering at George Washington University Hospital after a fall in Washington, D.C. last week.
A statement issued from the Democratic Congresswoman's office said Slaughter was at her home in Washington when she fell.
Doctors were monitoring the 88-year-old woman for a concussion, but added she did not suffer any fractures or broken bones.
"The congresswoman is tough as nails and she will bring that same spirit to this recovery," said Liam Fitzsimmons, chief of staff of Slaughter. "We appreciate the outpouring of support and the community’s patience during her recuperation."
Slaughter's office said it will release additional information as it becomes available.
Slaughter represents New York's 25th District in Congress.
New York State Assembly Majority leader Joe Morelle issued a statement wishing her well.
“If there is one thing I know about Louise it is that she is a relentless fighter who has never backed down from a challenge," Morelle said. "I trust that fighting spirit is still as strong as ever and will give her the strength needed to make a full and speedy recovery.”
