Crime Stoppers: Gates PD's new K-9

    <p>{/p}

    For the first time since 1980, the Gates Police Department has its own K-9.

    Sonny joined the department earlier this month. His main job will be to search out and alert officers to narcotics as part of the department's growing response to the opioid crisis.

    Meanwhile, CountryMax is partnering with Crime Stoppers support its K-9 fund. All local CountryMax stores will have donation jars benefiting Crime Stoppers.

    Sonny and his handler, Officer Matt Miller, joined us this morning, along with Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode, Joyce Palumbo from Crime Stoppers and Brad Payne from CountryMax.

    We also call your attention to Edwin Peart, 37, wanted for a federal probation warrant for violation of supervised release. He was originally charged for conspiracy to distribute drugs. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 423-9300.
