4 children charged for Penn Yan sexting ring
Penn Yan, N.Y. (WHAM) - Four minors were arrested in the Penn Yan area after reports of sexting came out over the last month.
This stemmed from a report on August 22 of several local young people exchanging nude photos through Facebook Messenger.
Penn Yan Police officers and Yates County deputies executed a search warrant on August 26 at a 16-year-old boy's home in Rock Stream. Several cell phones, computers and digital media storage devices were seized.
An investigation found the 16 year old had sent nude photos of himself to an 11-year-old girl in Penn Yan.
This led to officers to a 13-year-old boy in Himrod who sent a nude photo to himself to the same 11-year-old girl in Penn Yan, as well as a 17-year-old girl from Potter who sent photos of others to the 11-year-old girl.
In addition, the 11-year-old girl sent several nude photos to the other three involved.
The 11-year-old was charged with disseminating indecent material to a minor. The 16-year-old boy was charged with five counts of second-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor. The 13-year-old boy was charged with second-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor and endangering the welfare of a child. The 17-year-old girl was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl were charged as adults, while the 11 and 13 year olds were charged as juveniles and will answer their charges in Yates County Probation Department.
All four names are being withhold due to their status as minors, regardless of the nature of the charges against them.
