Perinton, N.Y. (WHAM) - The annual Perinton Ambulance food drive continued for its 9th year on Sunday, despite almost being cancelled.
Organizers say it's one of the largest food drives for the Perinton Food Shelf.
"The fact that the community is coming over with this food and providing this and trying to make sure we're able to continue this tradition is very, very important to us and we're very happy its turned out the way it's had," said John Leroy, president of Perinton Ambulance.
The drive was traditionally held at the Perinton Tops, until the store closed, causing organizers to initially cancel the event.
But, then the community got wind, and pitched in to help.
It was held at the ambulance headquarters on Turk Hill Road. After seeing the amount of support, organizers plan to continue the tradition.
