Sodus, N.Y. - Everardo Donoteo-Reyes, the man charged with evidence tampering in the deaths of a Sodus mother and her 14-month-old, is now charged with two counts of murder.
Reyes has been indicted on two counts of second degree murder in the deaths of Selena Hidalgo-Calderon and her son, Owen after a grand jury indictment.
Selena and Owen were declared missing in May. Selena's body was found buried in a Sodus orchard where she worked. In October, Sheriff's deputies said Owen's remains had been located and positively identified.
Reyes was arraigned on the murder charges and remanded to the Wayne County Jail without bail.
He is due back in court in January.
Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts is expected to discuss the arrest at a news conference Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Tuesday night, Selena's mother, Estela Calderon, released the following statement:
For months I have been waiting for the day when (Reyes) will finally be charged with murder. I want justice for my family. Nothing will give me back my daughter Selena and my grandson Owen, but I want this man to pay for what he has done so he will never hurt anyone again. I will never see Selena smile again or see my grandson grow up. They were full of life and innocent. I will never understand why he had to end their lives. Please bring all the weight of the law and make him pay for what he has done. Rest In Peace Selena and Owen.
