Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - An American Medical Response (AMR) paramedic is being recognized at the national level for her dedication to her position.

Laura Wolcott was designated as a 2018 Star of Life Award winner by the American Ambulance Association. She is one of only 100 recipients across the country - an award considered the highest honor for an EMS professional.

"Being nominated for the Stars of Life by my peers is the highest praise I could receive," said Wolcott. "To meet my congressional representatives as a representation of American Medical Response has been an honor.”

During her time as a paramedic, Wolcott and her partner have witnessed a near-homicide involving an attack by a pitbull and responded to multiple mass shootings over the past several years. Her employers say Laura always works hard to help others cope and is always available to support others.

Wolcott was recognized at the 2018 Stars of Life event in Washington, D.C. on June 12 in a special awards ceremony.
