Arrest made in July homicide of Batavia man

Batavia, N.Y. – An arrest has been made in a July homicide in Batavia.

Richard D. Hanes, 36, formerly of Batavia, is accused of killing Ray Morgan on July 24.

Batavia Police say Hanes had been considered a person of interest in the case after receiving a tip. He had been in custody on parole violations since July 26.

Our news partners at The Batavian report Ray Morgan died at a home on Liberty Street on July 24. Police had been dispatched to the address around 11:15 p.m. for a fight. At the scene, they found Morgan, who had suffered, “significant injuries.” He died before EMS personnel made it to the home.

Hanes was charged with second degree murder. Police say he continues to be held in the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, but no other arrests are anticipated at this time.
