CANANDAIGUA, NY (WHAM) - A Canandaigua man was surprised Thursday after receiving a much-needed scooter as a gift.

It's a happy ending to a story that first aired on 13WHAM on Wednesday night. Jimmy Filippello said his home aide started a GoFundMe page in hopes to raise money for a new motorized scooter, but allegedly pocked most of the money for herself.

When he got home on Thursday, he was greeted in the hallway by someone willing to help.

"My name is Miguel, and I saw your story last night on the news," said Miguel Millan of 101 Mobility.

Filippello was taken by surprise. "This is your new scooter," said Millan as he showed him the new gadget.

Filippello was speechless. He never expected someone would do this for him. "I don't know what to say. Thank you," Filappello said.

The smile on his face from ear to ear said it all. He depends on his scooter for help to get around.

Now, he has a brand new one thanks to 101 Mobility.

"I came home to all of this. I didn't know what's going on," he said.

Millan donated the scooter for free. His son is ultimately the one behind the good deed. Millan said he was watching Filippello's story on 13WHAM Wednesday night when he brought it to his attention.

"He says, 'Hey dad, you should help this guy,'" Millan said.

He works to help people get around. "We live for this, so every once and a while we are able to help somebody in the community," he added.

Filippello said his old scooter was worn down. It needed new tires and sometimes wouldn't turn on in the cold.

It's something he doesn't have to worry about that anymore.

"Life is good," he said as he drove around the new scooter.

While it was too cold to take his new wheels for a spin Thursday night, he knows where his first stop will be Friday morning.

"I'm going to take it to Tim Hortons to get a cup of coffee," he said.
