Car crashes into Rochester home, severs gas line

Rochester, N.Y. – The front porch of a home was destroyed, and a gas line severed after a crash in Rochester Tuesday night.

The crash happened in the area of Avenue D and Hollenbeck Street around 6:20 p.m.

According to police, a Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Avenue D when it collided with a Dodge Caravan traveling north on Hollenbeck Street. Police said the impact caused the Nissan to crash into the porch of a nearby duplex home.

The crash also caused a gas line to be severed. Rochester firefighters were required to turn gas off to the building.

The driver of the Nissan, a 29-year-old Spencerport man, and two people in the Dodge, a 56-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The residents of the home the vehicle struck have been temporarily displaced and are being provided aid by the American Red Cross. No one in the home was hurt in the crash.
