Carousel at Ontario Beach Park re-opens
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The historic Ontario Beach carousel opened for the season at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte on Friday.
This marks 111 years of operation for the Dentzel Menagerie Carousel.
Free carousel rides will be offered from noon until 9 p.m. all day.
"We are pleased to open this historic treasure to our community for yet another season of enjoyment," Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo said.
Absent from the carousel was a panel that depicted African-American children in a manner that some deemed offensive. Monroe County took the panel down and replaced it.
The carousel has 52 riding animals and two chariots. It has also recently been modified to accommodate ADA accessibility.
Over Memorial Day Weekend, the carousel will be open Friday-Monday, May 27-30. After this weekend, the operating schedule will move to Friday-Sunday until 24.
From June 24 until Labor Day, the carousel will be open every day from noon until 9 p.m.
Single rides are $1, punch cards (12 rides) are $10, and all-day ride wrist bands are $5.
