The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation awarded $487,881 to the Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester.

The grant will go towards the construction and operation of their $2.5 million state-of-the-art Miracle Field Complex at Ridge Park Athletic Complex in Webster.

This is one of the first program-specific youth sports investment in the greater Rochester region by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.

The $487,881 grant includes a $300,000 matching grant for the completion of Phase 2 of Miracle Field Complex. This will include universal/fully accessible bathrooms, a concession stand, storage space, pavilion and field lighting.

The remaining $187,881 will go towards the cost of operating the Miracle Field for its first three years. The costs include hiring a director, buying recreational equipment and formulating continued fundraising and marketing plans.

The Miracle Field is a multi-use field designed for people with physical or cognitive challenges.

Last year, The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation established a $5 million endowed Legacy Fund at Rochester Area Community Foundation to provide annual and ongoing grants to support current and new youth sports programs run by local communities to make them more accessible to all youth.

The grant will be celebrated at the Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester Fete on April 13 at 6:30 p.m.
