Royal Canadian Air Force explains lights above Lake Ontario

    Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) – Lights over Lake Ontario had some people questioning what was going on Tuesday night.

    The lights popped up unexpectedly over the lake during the dusk hours.

    13WHAM photojournalist Nate Miller caught them on camera around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

    Officials from the Royal Canadian Air Force confirmed Wednesday morning they were conducting training operations Tuesday night. During those exercises, the Air Force said they may have caused the visual phenomenon.

    The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday night it is investigating, but has not yet responded.
