Man jumps from 2nd floor to escape house fire in Mt. Morris

Mount Morris, N.Y. (WHAM) - A man had to jump from a second story window to escape a house fire in Mount Morris Monday morning.

At least six fire departments are responding to the fire on Dutch Street Road.

The owner of the house, who spoke briefly with 13WHAM News, has lived in the house for four decades. He said he was with his wife at a doctor's appointment when the fire started.

According to the Mount Morris fire chief, one person was inside at the time of the fire and had to jump from the second story to escape. The owner said the man who jumped was his son. The son, whose name has not yet been released to the public, is being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital right now.

The owner said he lost two dogs in the fire.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office is advising the public to avoid the 8000 block of Dutch Street Road while crews fight the fire.
