York, N.Y. – A Webster man is facing charges after Sheriff’s deputies say he contacted a 15-year-old girl from Livingston County through the app “Whisper.”

Jason Korts, 41, is charged with two counts of attempted disseminating indecent material to a minor and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Sheriff’s deputies say Korts contacted a 15-year-old Livingston County girl through Whisper and met up with her on August 16. The girl’s parents contacted law enforcement, and investigators subsequently took control of the phone and continued a conversation with Korts.

"The best thing that we can do is protect the most vulnerable, the children in our community," said Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty. "Lock down their phones. They're not at a mature level to even know sometimes what they're doing."

Deputies say a meeting was set up for Wednesday, with Korts believing he would be meeting the girl again. Korts was arrested after arriving in York.

"Apps, online websites, all of those things, your kids have access to all of that on their phone and you have no clue who they are communicating with,' said Dougherty.

Without an attorney at his arraignment, the judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. He is expected back in court next week.
