Deputy chief with Rochester Fire Department retires after 41 years


Rochester, N.Y. -- A deputy chief within the Rochester Fire Department has hung up his helmet after 41 years of service.

Monday was Deputy Chief Glenn Sheremeta’s last day on the job.

He joined the department back in 1976 and has served in all officer ranks in the line division. He was most recently promoted to deputy chief.

Sheremeta comes from a family of firefighters. Between Sheremeta, his brother and his father, they have 102 consecutive years in fire service.
