FBI raids offices of Robert Morgan in Pittsford Monday morning
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The FBI raided the offices of developer Robert Morgan Monday morning.
FBI agents were seen going into the Basin Tech Centre office park on Pittsford-Victor Road where one of Morgan's company offices is located.
FBI spokesperson Maureen Dempsey said the FBI is "conducting court-authorized activity" at the offices.
Morgan is the CEO of Morgan Management. One of its subsidiaries, Morgan Communities, is co-leading the entertainment complex project at Parcel 5 in Rochester. Morgan's developments, both completed and in progress, are scattered across downtown Rochester.
Speaking to reporters after an event Monday afternoon, Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren defended Morgan, saying he is innocent until proven guilty.
"As it pertains to the City of Rochester, we haven’t had any inquiries from my law department," Warren said. "We haven't had any issues of concern that have been brought to us by authorities. So we will proceed to do work in the City of Rochester as normal until otherwise."
Morgan owns a number of properties across New York, Monroe County and Rochester, including proposed projects such as the entertainment project at Parcel 5, the proposed Court Street apartments by Dinosaur Barbecue and one of the proposed Inner Loop projects.
"We have a number of projects in development," Warren said. "We are hopeful many of them will be completed. He’s done a lot of work that can be contributed to the revitalization of downtown."
Warren added that the city will move ahead with projects such as the entertainment complex on Parcel 5, saying that it is not clear what this investigation is about.
