Girls Rock Rochester empowers girls, transgender youth
Rochester, N.Y. -- Empowering girls and transgender youth in the Rochester community.
Hundreds of people turned out on Saturday for the 5th annual Girls Rock! Showcase at Anthology Music Hall.
Girls Rock Rochester is a non-profit, rock and roll girl's camp that uses music creation and performance as tools to help with self-confidence and creativity.
On Monday, the girls got together to write original music for the performance.
"When they're up on stage, they get to perform for their families and friends, and it's a really amazing experience for most of them. 50% of our campers are here on financial aid and without this program they would never have access to instruments like this," said Kaci Smith, program director of Girls Rock Rochester.
