Heroin overdoses rising again in Monroe County after brief drop

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - After a brief dip in August, opioid overdoses are climbing again in Rochester.

New data released Thursday by the Monroe County Heroin Task Force shows the number of heroin overdoses increased from August to September.

There were 97 reported overdoses in September, as compared to 92 in August. Of the 97 overdoses, 12 of them were fatal - as compared to seven deaths in August.

To date, 866 people have overdosed on opioids in the first nine months of 2018 with 122 of them dying of an overdose. In all of 2017, 766 people overdosed and 220 of them died.
