Hobart & William Smith president resigns effective immediately
Geneva, N.Y. (WHAM) - The president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges has resigned effective immediately.
Dr. Gregory J. Vincent made the announcement to the Board of Trustees on Friday.
Vincent said his resignation is the best decision for the Colleges and himself, given the allegations that he plagiarized portions of his doctoral dissertation and the "distraction they have caused."
“After a great deal of thought and consideration, in the best interests of my family and myself, and for the love of Hobart and William Smith, I have decided to tender my resignation in order to explore new opportunities,” said Vincent. “This has been a difficult decision because I believe strongly in the value of a Hobart and William Smith education and the trajectory that we have been mapping during the past year."
Vincent served as the president of the Colleges for one year.
Pat McGuire, a Professor Emeritus of Economics, will serve as interim president as a national search begins for a new president.
