Irondequoit/Greece, N.Y. (WHAM) - Property owners were up bright and early Friday morning to pay their 2018 property taxes early. Some at Irondequoit Town Hall were in line as early as 7:00 am.

The new Federal Tax Law caps deductions for state and local taxes at $10,000 for taxes filed in 2019.

That's prompted a rush by local governments to allow property owners to prepay for 2018 and avoid losing the deduction.

As seen by the lines Friday, people appear to be taking advantage of that.

"The irony is you never see so many people happily waiting in line to pay their taxes, so our goal is to just be able to do it in an expedient manner," said Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley.

"Now it's done, it's paid, I'm in and out and I'm happy!" said Judy Yaneka, who paid her property taxes Friday.

The Town of Irondequoit says it saw about 350 people in the first hour.

Irondequoit wasn't the only busy Town Hall.

It was all hands on deck for early processing in Greece.

The Town says in just one hour , more than 260 people were processed.

The Town has directed extra staff and extended town hall hours until 8:00 tonight.
