Rochester, N.Y. – The Fringe Festival kicked off on a high note Thursday night.

The energy was high – for the most part! Behind the walls of an inflatable igloo – yes, part of the festival – was Tom Montagliano is gunning for a different experience.

“I stumbled across an inflatable igloo, and I just started laughing,” Tom explained to 13WHAM. “Like, what if I owned an inflatable igloo? And at that moment I said, ‘I think I need to pursue that.”

People step in, they sit and just listen.

“Especially, coming from Brooklyn, where there’s so much noise everywhere, it was very cathartic for me to create these environments where you can be quiet and relax for a while.”

It’s the peace he enjoys, every time he comes back home to Rochester.

“Living in New York and experiencing the struggle there, I’ve really come to appreciate Rochester a lot more,” he said.

“I’m really happy to be back and share my art,” he added.

There’s still nine more days of Fringe Festival left! We’ll bring you more coverage Friday!
