Lake snow and cold on the way

Active lake snow warnings and advisories

Rochester, NY - Winter is coming out of hibernation soon.

Although technically it's not winter yet, many native WNY residents look at December as a wintry month. This will likely be the first 'wintry' taste of the season for parts of the region.

The wind direction is not favorable for heavy snow around Rochester, but some briefly intense snow showers may be possible tonight.

In any of those snow showers and lake snow squalls, the visibility can be greatly reduced. This will cause some localized travel issues mainly west of Rochester.

By the end of today, there may be a few isolated areas in western Monroe County receiving between a dusting to an inch of accumulation. Parts of Genesee County could see between a dusting to 2 inches of snow by the end of the day.

Through the overnight, another 2-4" may fall in parts of Genesee County, and another 3-5" for parts of Wyoming County.
