DANSVILLE, N.Y. (WHAM) - A local hospital raised nearly $6,000 for area charities during an annual event earlier in December.

The staff of UR Medicine| Noyes Health raised $5,881 for local charities at its annual employee benefits fair on December 6.

Departments throughout the health system helped create gift baskets for raffles at the event. Employees got to choose three local charities to support, and with every raffle ticket purchased, $1 went to the employee's charity of choice.

“Staff members in nearly every department came together to come up with a theme and gather items for the gift baskets,” said Amy Pollard, UR Medicine | Noyes Health CEO. “It’s an opportunity for Noyes Staff to give back to their community, a community which supports the hospital in so many ways.”

The Cancer Comfort Bag Project will receive $1,855. The organization provides care packages to cancer patients and survivors locally and around the country and was started two years ago by Dansville's Jennifer Howe.

The Santa Hat Society, an organization started by Dansville teenager Mary Kate Brushafer to provide holiday gifts for local families in need, received $1,838.

Hearthside Cats, the Geneseo-based organization that promotes responsible pet ownership and rescues and provides medical care to homeless cats and kittens, received $2,188.
