Henrietta, N.Y. – Valentine’s Day is Wednesday, and Americans are expected to spend more this year on gifts.

The National Retail Federation estimates the average person will spend $90 on their significant other.

We caught up with some last-minute shoppers Tuesday at the Calkins Road Wegmans in Henrietta.

Kyle Nelson of Scottsville was out shopping for his wife and children.

“Hopefully they’ll wake up tomorrow morning and see these and go about the day with a smile on their face,” he said.

David of Henrietta said he was shopping for his wife and daughter.

“I either buy a bush or I buy a flower, but I get them something,” he said. “I like to keep myself where I am.”

And as for waiting until February 13 to pick up gifts?

“I always wait ‘til the last minute,” he joked. “I was born late, so I get everything else late.”

By the way, Americans spend the most on jewelry for Valentine’s Day, followed by flowers.
