Local riders celebrate Global Fat Bikes Day
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Saturday was Global Fat Bike Day.
Yes, it's a thing.
A large group of bikers gathered to celebrate at Tryon Park in Rochester.
Fat bikes get their names from their wide tires, which help you get through conditions ranging from sand to snow.
"When the conditions change, we don't need to change our bikes for it," said Willo Glynn, the owner of Growler Performance Bikes.
"If it's nice and warm like a beautiful day today, we can ride the same bike as if it's two feet of snow," he said."
Organizers say the wide tires of fat bikes provide more stability for riders, giving some people who may be scared to go out bike riding, more confidence.
