A huge surprise for a local veteran on Saturday. She received a new car.

Domonique Smith, who served in the U.S. Navy, thought she was going to the American Warrior Concert in Le Roy.

But when she arrived, she got much more.

Operation Build Up is a group that builds cars for veterans in need.

The group realized Smith needed a car and were happy to help.

"It's overwhelming", said Smith. "I'm completely surprised. I was told that I was coming to a regular picnic and to walk into this was definitely a great surprise," she said.

"What a lot of people don't understand is that our veterans come home after serving their country for long periods of time and encounter difficulty in life," said CEO of Operation Build Up, Justin Cogswell.

Smith has a 3-year-old at home and was riding her bike to work everyday.
