'Lyell Matters!' calls for awareness of neighborhood problems, help from elected officials
Rochester, N.Y. – A new neighborhood association held its first gathering Tuesday night in Rochester.
The people behind “Lyell Matters!” say they want to raise awareness about issues in their neighborhood, including crime, prostitution and drugs.
Organizers are also calling on elected leaders from across our area stronger lines of communication and help with developing solutions.
“We are tired of being the neighborhood known as the place for drugs, crime, violence, prostitution. We want to end that. We want to revitalize this neighborhood,” said Silvano Orsi, president of the Little Italy Association. “We’ve got plans for it. We want to sit down at a roundtable with all of these officials. We’re tired of the ignoring game.”
In a statement sent to 13WHAM, a representative for the City of Rochester said, “Our staff from our Neighborhood Service Centers and Office of Constituent Services regularly attends and interacts with our neighborhood associations.”
