Webster, N.Y. - A 79-year old man has died after police say while mowing his lawn, he fell over a cliff and into an embankment.

Webster Police Lt. Dennis Kohlmeier told 13WHAM the man went down a 30-foot embankment, directly behind his home on Lake Road.

"He was last in contact with family members this [Sunday] afternoon and when they returned home about 6:00 p.m., they discovered he was at the bottom of the embankment," said Lt. Kohlmeier.

Multiple crews, including several Webster fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard, spent hours retrieving the man's body. The medical examiner was on scene Sunday to determine if the lawnmower played a role in his death.

"We just saw him passing by and watched him mow his lawn all the time," said neighbor David Wilbert. "It was an awful thing that happened. You don't want this to happen, especially on Father's Day. It brings to light that maybe you should enjoy time with your family."

The victim's name has not been released.
