Lyons, N.Y. (WHAM) - The man convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend in Sodus in 2016 was sentenced Thursday morning.

Alvin Pinkard, 61, was sentenced to the maximum of 25 years to life.

State Police say Chiaverini, 57, was found dead on her back porch on October 6, 2016 after a family member requested police to check on her well-being at her house on Joy Road.

Pinkard was convicted of second-degree murder by a jury in May.

Two of her sisters spoke in court before Pinkard was sentenced.

"I think the jury did a great job," said Wayne County District Attorney Mike Calarco. "The State Police investigation was impeccable and our office put in a lot of time and I think the sentence was fair."

While the district attorney's office referred to Pinkard as Chiaverini's estranged husband, those close to Chiaverini said he was her ex-boyfriend.
