Mayor: Deputy chief with Rochester Fire Department suspended amid investigation
Rochester, N.Y. – Rochester’s mayor confirms the deputy chief with the Rochester Fire Department has been suspended with pay pending an investigation.
Mayor Lovely Warren said Wednesday Tom Szatko is facing an accusation, and that it is being investigated. She said this is a human resources matter, and she could not comment on the specifics of the investigation at this time.
Multiple sources, including one within RFD, say the suspension stems from an alleged harassment incident involving a female coworker.
Eddie Santiago, president of Rochester Firefighter Union Local 1071, says while Szatko is no longer a union member, he's hoping any issues surrounding him get fixed.
"I haven’t seen any official documentation as to what the claim is," said Santiago. "But he did play an integral part to my organization, Local 1071, so I’d like to see the issue resolved sooner rather than later."
13WHAM stopped at addresses listed under Szatko's name for a comment, but never reached him.
Mayor Warren confirmed that human resources and law departments were investigating.
