Monument to Officer Daryl Pierson unveiled at East Rochester complex

    East Rochester, N.Y. – Fallen Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson is being remembered through a new tribute Friday.

    A tribute in sculpture form was unveiled Friday morning at the Eyer Building Complex in East Rochester.

    The dedication ceremony showed the life-size sculpture of Pierson and a young boy standing below him. A plaque below the sculpture reads "In Memory Of Daryl Pierson." Pierson lived in East Rochester.

    Artist Mark McDermott said he wanted to remind everyone of Officer Pierson and his sacrifice.

    "I wanted this reminder of the gentleman that gave his life for all the officers and anyone who worked in the community, so thank you very much," McDermott said.

    It was four years ago this month when Officer Pierson was gunned down in the line of duty by Thomas Johnson, III. Johnson is serving life in prison.
