Mother of two remains in hospital after serious Chili crash
Chili, N.Y. – A mother of two small children remains at Strong Memorial Hospital, awaiting more surgeries, after surviving a serious head-on car crash.
Angela Ramage, 33, thought she would spend Christmas Day with her four-month-old daughter and two-year-old son. Now, she’s in the hospital.
Just five days before Christmas, a driver lost control of his car on Paul Road, crossing the center line and hitting Ramage’s car head-on, according to Sheriff’s deputies.
“She remembers turning on the road,” said Ramage’s sister-in-law, Elizabeth DeRoo. “And the next memory she has is being on the ground with EMS worker speaking with her.”
Ramage broke her pelvis and shattered her hip and kneecaps. She missed celebrating her daughter’s first Christmas, and her son had a hard time spending the holiday without his mother.
“He just curled up on her chest and didn’t leave the whole time he was there,” said DeRoo.
“You can’t really explain to a two-year-old,” she added. “He knows she has a boo-boo. He’s been to see her, but he really doesn’t have a concept of time. But he just knows he wants her home, so I know that has been very difficult.”
The mother of two has knee surgery coming up in January, before being released from the hospital. Then, she’ll face several months of recovery to walk again.
DeRoo says Ramage’s accident is a reminder of, “how dangerous it is on the road, how dangerous vehicles are. So just to be careful and mindful when you’re driving.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with household bills. You can find more information here.
