GREECE, N.Y. (WHAM) – A local Wegmans store will be closed overnight Tuesday into Wednesday to conduct an active shooter exercise.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Greece Police Department, Monroe County Emergency Communications Department and American Medical Response (AMR) will be conducting the exercise at the store located at Mt. Read Boulevard.

The Mt. Read Blvd. Wegmans and its parking lot will be closed to the public from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“According to the FBI, over 40 percent of active shooter incidents in the United States between 2000 and 2015 occurred in areas of commerce.” said Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn. “It is essential that we provide our first responders with this critical training so they can confidently respond to an active shooter situation.”
