Neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Maxwell announces candidacy for Congress
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) - Neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Maxwell has announced that he is running for Congress.
Maxwell made the announcement Saturday morning at City Grill on East Avenue.
Maxwell, an East Rochester native, is running for Representative for New York’s 25th Congressional District as a Republican, a role currently filled by Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.
According to his website, Maxwell graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School and has been practicing neurosurgery in Rochester since 1982. He has served as Chief of Neurosurgery at Rochester General Hospital since 1998.
It's unclear is Slaughter is running again.
Mark Assini, who lost to Slaughter before, hasn't announced whether or not he is running again.
"But I think you can read between the lines," said Assini. "And when I do talk about what my intentions are, they will be very specific proposals for this community. That's what they deserve."
The deadline for candidates is April 12.
