New anti-racism organization aims to begin work in RCSD
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A new organization is working against racism in the City of Rochester.
The Movement for Anti-Racist Ministry and Action - M.A.M.A. - announced their first set of goals Monday at a news conference.
"We need more teachers of color, not just for the sake of having people of color, but because research is very clear about the fact that a student who has even one black teacher between K-12, or pre-K and 12th grade, has a much more significant chance of graduating and going on to college," said Howard Eagle, one of the founding members of M.A.M.A.
MAMA describes itself as a Christian-based organization that works to impact individual, institutional, and structural racism in measurable ways.
The group is holding a forum Thursday night with the candidates running for the Rochester Board of Education.
Those interested in attending can do so at 6:30 p.m. at the Community of the Savior church on East Henrietta Road.
