New apartment complex in Henrietta supports people with disabilities
Henrietta, N.Y. (WHAM) - A new complex was completed this week in Henrietta that provides support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Monroe County.
Heritage Gardens, located off of Jefferson Road, has 82 apartment units - 17 of which are set aside for people who receive on-site support services from Heritage Christian Services.
The $16 million development is located across the street from The Pieters Family Life Center, which allows people living in the apartments have easy access to its programs. Counseling services, along with support groups, occupational, speech, and physical, art and music therapy are among the services provided to residents.
The 82,500 square foot building has tenant storage, a laundry room, community room with kitchen, lounge, computer room, and an outdoor playground.
Home Leasing, Heritage Christian Services, and Edgemere Development co-developed the complex.
The development was subsidized by several federal, state and county agencies. New York State Homes and Community Renewal gave the developers $2.9 million in tax-exempt bonds, while the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities provided $1.7 million. A federal low-income housing tax credit agreement will generate a total of $4.9 million for the project, and an additional $4.4 million in subsidy. The Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Monroe County HOME funds also provided financial assistance in funding the project.
