Norwich man charged with murder for 11-year-old's death, DA's office says
NORWICH, N.Y. —
A Norwich man is facing a murder charge for the death of an 11-year-old girl earlier this week, according to the Chenango County District Attorney's Office.
The DA's office says 36-year-old James Brower has been arrested and is facing a first-degree murder charge for the death of 11-year-old Jacelyn O'Connor, of Morris.
Brower was arraigned in Chenango County Court Tuesday night and sent to the Chenango County Jail without bail, according to State Police. He's due back in court Thursday morning.
State Police say O'Connor was found dead when patrols responded to a home on County Route 33 in Norwich on Sunday after receiving reports of an 11-year-old girl in cardiac arrest. Troopers say Brower lived at the home.
An investigation determined O'Connor was the victim of a homicide, State Police said in a release.
The Morris Central School district put a statement on its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon saying a candlelight vigil is planned for August 7 at 7 p.m.
State Police say the investigation into O'Connor's death is ongoing.
