Man dies in East Bloomfield crash
EAST BLOOMFIELD, N.Y. (WHAM) - Deputies say a Canandaigua man has died in a car crash that happened in Ontario County Wednesday night.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, deputies, along with State Troopers, East Bloomfield Fire Department, East Bloomfield Ambulance and Canandaigua Ambulance, responded to the intersection of State Route 5 and 20 and State Route 64 North in the Town of East Bloomfield just after 10:30 p.m. for the report of a single car crash with injuries.
Deputies believe the car was heading south from Route 64 North and failed to come to a stop at State Route 5 and 20, causing the car to go through the intersection and hit an embankment.
Two Canandaigua men were in the car at the time of the crash - 66-year-old Peter J. Maruffi Jr. and 31-year-old Peter L. Maruffi.
Peter J. Maruffi Jr., who was driving, sustained serious injuries. He was first treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The passenger, Peter L. Maruffi, was treated at the scene, but was also taken to the hospital for abdominal and internal injuries.
The area was closed off for three and a half hours while deputies investigated.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
