Greece, N.Y. (WHAM) - State Police said a teenager from Hamlin is in critical condition Wednesday morning after a crash Tuesday on the Lake Ontario State Parkway.

This happened around 8:45 a.m. near the Manitou Beach Road exit in the eastbound lane.

Fire personnel were called to the scene to help extricate 17-year-old Ayanna Herrold. The car went off the road and crashed into some trees along the parkway.

Herrold was listed in critical condition at Strong Memorial Hospital, according to State Police.

Beth Rhodes is one of three women that stopped to help following the crash.

"I saw two cars pulled over, and I saw a woman in my rear-view mirror come out and start waving her hands," said Rhodes. "Her car was mangled. It was just horrible."

State Police Trooper Mark O'Donnell said they are thankful several people did stop to help.

Rhodes says one of the other women is a registered nurse.

"I hope her family can connect with those women because if she lives, they saved her life, and if she doesn't, at least she tried," said Rhodes.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
