Police: Man sexually abused child inside Canandaigua business
Canandaigua, N.Y. (WHAM) - Police in Canandaigua said they arrested a Rochester man for allegedly sexually abusing a child Saturday.
Officers said David Schutz, 51, had inappropriate sexual contact with a child under the age of 11.
Investigators said this happened around 5 p.m. Saturday inside a business on South Main Street. Officers have not said which business or what the relationship was between the alleged victim and the suspect.
Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth said a citizen noticed Schutz acting suspicious before the alleged incident. She kept an eye on him, watched which business he went into and she saw the alleged crime happened. The woman immediately called police, which Chief Hedworth said was invaluable to getting Schutz into custody.
Schutz was arrested around 4 a.m. Sunday by Canandaigua Police officers and charged with first-degree sex abuse.
Schutz was taken to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.
Now more than ever, Chief Hedworth said, if you see something, say something.
