Police: Man tried to set gas station pump on fire in Rochester

    Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Rochester man was arrested and charged with trying to set a gas pump on fire on Sunday, according to police.

    According to the Arson Task Force, Lawrence Greggs, 35, was at the gas station on N. Goodman Street. near Central Park around 12:15 a.m.

    Greggs was seen holding a lighter up to one of the fuel pumps and trying to set it on fire. Police and firefighters were called to the scene, but no fire was found.

    Officers later found Greggs in the area and took him into custody.

    No one was injured and no fire ended up being set.

    Greggs was charged with attempted arson. He is in the Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment.
