UPDATE (1/3/2019): Police say a teenager who ran away from home has been found.
Antonia Mendez was taken into custody by the Rochester Police Department, Penn Yan Police say, and is being held in a juvenile facility.
Penn Yan/Victor, N.Y. (WHAM) - Police in Penn Yan are asking for the public to be on the lookout for a teenage girl who ran away from her family on December 31 and has a warrant out for her arrest.
Antonia Mendez, 15, reportedly told her mother that she was going to Eastview Mall with her friends on December 31. Her family set a 7 p.m. curfew for her and she did not come home. Investigators believe that she did not go to the mall and went elsewhere.
Mendez is described as 5'3" tall, weighing 130 lbs. with a light skin tone, brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing jeans, a t-shirt and backpack.
According to police, Mendez is being supervised by NYS Office of Children and Family Resources and was wearing an ankle monitor. The ankle monitor is believed to have been cut off.
Mendez has been in sporadic contact with her mother through the Snapchat app and has told her that she is not coming home.
Penn Yan Police Sgt. Brandon Dehond said they do not believe she was picked up, nor do they feel the need at this time to issue an AMBER Alert.
Anyone who may have information about Mendez's whereabouts should contact the Penn Yan Police at (315) 536-4426.
